Accreditation & General Information

1. Is Jackson College of Education accredited in Ghana?
Yes. Jackson College of Education (JCE), a division of Jackson University College (JUC), is fully accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and officially recognised by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES). Its academic programmes are offered in affiliation with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), which awards certificates upon successful completion of the programmes.

2. What academic programmes are available at Jackson College of Education?
Jackson College of Education (JCE) offers GTEC-accredited teacher education programmes in affiliation with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), including:

4-Year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

  • Early Grade Education
  • Upper Primary Education
  • Junior High School (JHS) Education Specialisms

2-Year B.Ed. Top-Up Programme

  • Designed for holders of a Diploma in Basic Education (DBE)

1-Year Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

  • For degree holders in non-education fields who wish to become professional teachers.

Master’s Programmes

  • Master of Arts (M.A.)
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.)
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.)
  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)

3. What is a JHS Specialism?
JHS Specialisms are specific subject areas that prepare teacher trainees to teach specific subjects at the Junior High School level.Available specialisms include:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Religious and Moral Education (RME)
  • French
  • Home Economics

Applicants must possess a credit pass in the relevant elective subject.

Admissions Requirements

1. What are the minimum entry requirements for the undergraduate programmes?
WASSCE holders with credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects, comprising three (3) core subjects (including Core English Language and Core Mathematics) and three (3) elective subjects.

SSSCE holders with passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects, comprising three (3) core subjects (including Core English Language and Core Mathematics) and three (3) elective subjects.

Persons aged 25 years or above with passes in English Language and Core Mathematics, and relevant field experience, may apply as Mature Students. Admission under this category is subject to passing an Entrance Examination.

Non-terminal diploma holders from non-education backgrounds may be admitted into Level 100 of the Bachelor of Education programme.

Diploma in Basic Education holders from any recognised university or accredited institution may apply for the Post-Diploma in Education programme to earn a Bachelor of Education degree.

2. What are the minimum entry requirements for the postgraduate programmes?
Applicants must possess a degree from an accredited university or higher education institution, with a minimum of a Second Class Lower division.

NB: Applicants with Third Class or Pass degrees may also be considered based on relevant work experience and successful performance in an interview.

3. Can mature students apply for admission?
Yes. Jackson College of Education (JCE) accepts mature applicants into its Bachelor of Education programmes. Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of application and possess relevant field experience. Admission under the Mature Students category is subject to passing an Entrance Examination.

4. Do you accept HND holders for the Top-Up programme?
The 2-Year Post-Diploma in Education Programme (Top-up) is specifically designed for holders of a Diploma in Basic Education (DBE).
Therefore, HND holders are not eligible for the Top-Up programme. However, they may:

  • Apply for the 4-Year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme as regular or mature applicants; or
  • Complete a full degree programme and subsequently apply for the 1-Year Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme.

5. Are foreign certificates accepted?
Yes. Foreign certificates are accepted for admission to Jackson College of Education. However, such certificates must first be evaluated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to determine their equivalence to the relevant Ghanaian qualification standards.
Applicants will be considered for admission if their qualifications satisfy the applicable GTEC evaluation requirements and the admission requirements of the College.

    Learning Model & Flexibility

    1. How is Jackson College of Education different from traditional Colleges of Education?
    Unlike traditional residential Colleges of Education, Jackson College of Education (JCE) is not a residential-based institution. It operates mainly as a distance-learning institution designed for working professionals and individuals seeking flexible study options.
    The College adopts a blended learning approach, combining:

    • Online learning through a Learning Management System (LMS)
    • In-person (face-to-face) lectures conducted on weekends at designated learning centres across 13 regions of Ghana.

    2. Can I pursue a programme while working full-time?
    Yes. Lectures are flexibly structured and delivered mainly on weekends, using a blended learning approach that combines both online and in-person sessions.

      International Students

      1. Can foreign nationals apply to JCE?
      Yes. Foreign nationals are eligible to apply to Jackson College of Education as International Students.

      An applicant’s Local or International status is determined during the purchase of the e-voucher based on the applicant’s country of origin (nationality) and country of residence. An applicant is considered a Local applicant if both the country of origin and country of residence are Ghana. Applicants who do not meet both conditions are classified as International applicants.

      Foreign nationals will be required to upload a valid international passport during the application process.
      International students residing outside Ghana will undertake their lectures, tutorials, and assessments online and are expected to participate actively in all academic activities regardless of their time zone.

      International students residing in Ghana will join Local students to undertake their lectures, tutorials, and assessments at any of the learning centres of their choice within Ghana.

      1. How can I apply for admission?
      Purchase an e-voucher through:

      Complete the application online through:

      2. What documents are required during the application process?
      Applicants are required to submit the following:
      • A recent passport-sized photograph (white background)

      • A valid national ID card:
      o Ghana Card
      o Passport
      • Academic certificate(s)
      • Academic transcript(s), where applicable
      • Master’s applicants must additionally provide:
      o Two (2) references

      3. How long does it take to receive feedback after submission of application?
      Applicants will receive feedback on their application within five (5) working days after submission.
      Notifications shall be communicated through the following channels:
      • Email
      • Notification on the Admission Portal
      • SMS/Text Message (for Ghana phone numbers only)

      4. Can I change my programme after submitting my application?
      Once an application has been submitted, applicants cannot make edits directly through the admission portal.
      Applicants who wish to make changes to their programme or application details should contact the Admissions Office via email at admissions@jce.edu.gh

      5. Can an applicant also earn a referral commission?
      Yes. To qualify for the referral commission, an applicant must first successfully submit their own application.
      After submitting their application, the applicant may share their Applicant Number, which also serves as the Referral Code, with someone they introduce to the College. When the referred applicant successfully submits their application, the referring applicant will receive an instant GHS 50.00 commission via mobile money on their primary contact, provided it is a valid Ghana mobile money number.

      Certificates & Further Studies

      1. Will I receive a recognised certificate after graduation?
      Yes. Upon successful completion of your programme, you will receive a certificate awarded by University of Education, Winneba, the affiliate university of Jackson University College.

      2. Can graduates pursue further studies with qualifications obtained from JCE?
      Yes. Qualifications obtained from Jackson College of Education are widely recognised because the institution is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and affiliated with University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
      Graduates may therefore pursue further studies and professional development opportunities both within Ghana and internationally, subject to the admission requirements of the receiving institution.
